Contracts Manager

This role is working for Perenti’s Surface Mining business, African Mining Services (AMS).We are seeking to engage a suitably skilled Contracts Manager to manage the commercial and contractual responsibilities for Project(s) in West Africa, both upstream and downstream. The position will be based in the United Kingdom (Hammersmith) with regular travel to West Africa.Position Accountabilities Advising the project on general commercial requirements, obligations and or issues. Supporting and advising projects and work teams, with a view to addressing commercial issues resulting in maximum entitlements with minimal risk. Developing a positive relationship with client representatives while maintaining the Company’s interests. Comply with the Projects Contracts and ensure all AMS entitlements under the contract are received and variations are flagged and dealt with expediently. Conduct investigations, including document review and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders, to understand facts surrounding issues or disputes. Review issues to understand why the issue become an area of dispute and assess circumstances to determine the most appropriate basis for AMS recourse. Engage in client/ subcontractor liaison to understand client’s perspective. Maintain understanding of contract arrangements and rights and responsibilities, to assess liabilities or entitlements in relation to disputes. Ensure any change in legislation or other commercial risk to those identified and included in a contract at base tender are administered without disadvantage to the AMS. Ensure processes are in place so discrete changes to scope of work are correctly accounted for in contract valuations and progress claims. Seek advice and engage with internal discipline skills i.e. engineering, mine planning, legal and other stakeholders. Review and analyse revenue trends in conjunction with cost and operational data to ensure revenue achieved accurately reflects work undertaken on site. Review site accounts to understand losses/ budget differentials to ensure that all work undertaken is in line with contract agreements and processes are in place to account for scope variations and ensure payment is forthcoming. Work with stakeholders across the business to ensure careful and effective claims management processes are in place and subcontractors/ service provider are paid appropriately for the work they undertake. Review and assess risks associated with all claim submissions to understand longer term or broader liabilities that may be created as a result of perusing claims Provide advice and submission to Project Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager, and other stakeholders on the risks/benefits of pursuing claims.To be considered for this role you will demonstrate a successful career history with: Degree or similar in mining, engineering, finance, legal or business background Fluent in written and spoken French; (preferred) Fluent in written and spoken English. Flexibility to travel and ability to work across time zones. An in-depth knowledge of Contract Mining, with a minimum 5 years relevant experience. Previous working experience in Africa is preferred. Experience in contracts management and working in a project environment. Experience in the mining project environment. Demonstrated understanding of how to assess the commercial health of a contract mining project. Proficient communication skills. Ability to analyse financial data relating to contractual matters. Ability to seek advice and arguments from others and build foundations to substantiate arguments on behalf of AMS. Knowledge of an ERP, specifically PRONTO.
